Waiting on Wednesday weekly event that spotlights upcoming-releases that bloggers are most excited about. This week’s I-can’t-wait book is: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Fangirl will be released on September 10, 2013 by St. Martin’s Griffin.
About the Book
A coming-of-age tale of fan fiction, family and first love.
Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .
But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?
Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind? (From Goodreads.com)
Why I’m Waiting
I’ve got to admit I wanted to read this book before I ever even read the synopsis. Heck, I wanted to read it as soon as I learned Rainbow Rowell was writing a new book. But when you combine Rainbow + THAT COVER + THAT TITLE + the synopsis, you get something that I’m jumping up and down to read.
I first learned about Rainbow Rowell from John Green. He was endorsing her second book, Eleanor & Park, that was released earlier this year. My first thought was “OMG, is that her real name?” and my second was “Well, if John Green says she is good, I’ve got to check it out.” (And if you were wondering, it is and he was right!) And then I saw the cover and I was driving all over town looking for the book in print. And I spent one full day reading, and sobbing, and hugging a pillow, and highlighting/bookmarking up that book. It’s now a hot mess.
See!?
So obviously I’m an obsessed fan. And I am even willing to admit that I am a fangirl. So, really… how could I NOT be waiting for this one?
About the Author
Rainbow Rowell is only very good at two things – reading and writing, in that order.
People who are good only at reading and writing, and who also want health insurance, usually study journalism. Rainbow earned a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1995 and at, 24, became the youngest-ever – and first female – columnist at the Omaha World-Herald. (Which maybe won’t sound like such a big deal to you, but she was pretty proud of herself at the time and celebrated with lots of Carlo Rossi Paisano.)
Though her first novel, ATTACHMENTS, is set in a newsroom, it couldn’t be less of a true story. She met her husband in junior high and can hardly get him to read her books, let alone her email.
Her second novel, ELEANOR & PARK – sort of an East Omaha Romeo & Juliet – is out now. (If you liked Attachments, you might like this one, too. The stakes are higher. And there’s more kissing.)
Her third book, FANGIRL, another love and geek and family story, also comes out this year.
When she’s not writing, Rainbow is reading comic books, planning Disney World trips and arguing with people about things that don’t really matter in the big scheme of things. She has two sons, and if God hears her prayers, they will grow up just as nerdy and true-hearted as the protagonists of her books.

Angela’s Anxious Life
I know I just want to cover my walls in it. But that would be awkward for my husband. HAHA.
I hope this Rowell has a happy ending, I really liked Eleanor & Park, but that ending… I didn’t like that at all. She writes great characters though!
My Waiting on Wednesday
Ugh, I know right! She explained she wanted to leave it up to the reader to decide. Which, I guess was cool, but GAW I wanted to know!
I’ve been seeing so much of this book lately! 🙂 Sounds good!

I wasn’t a total fan of Eleanor and Park, but this one sounds like a lot of fun!
My WoW
I’m hoping this one isn’t as depressing as E&P
I am really excited for this! Somehow when I first heard about it I mistook it for an adult book about adults and I was like well, that’s a little creepy, these older cat lady sisters liking this Harry Potter type character. But I figured I loved Eleanor and Park so I’d give it a shot. Thankfully I realized it’s actually about college students and now i’m really excited. Great pick!
HAHA that’s hilarious!
This was my pick a few weeks ago. Can’t wait!
