Super 6 Most Original World Building!
Ahh world building. This can make or break a book, especially in the dystopian and fantasy worlds. There are a lot that do it right, but here are six of my favorites.
These Broken Stars
One of my favorite parts of this book was how the authors made the world come to life. I’m not exactly a visual person, but I was able to see everything about the world they created. And I LOVED it.
The Mortal Instruments & The Infernal Devices
I am so intrigued by the world Cassandra Clare created. It’s both separate from and interwoven in our world. It is fascinating, which is why I LOVE that she has created separate series within the world of Shadowhunters and Downworlders.
The world created in this series starts out pretty small: a spaceship headed to a new world. But Beth Revis really creates something fantastic with her world and it continues to grow and expand with each book. This is just a completely amazing series and the world has a lot to do with that.
The Hunger Games
This is a world I NEVER want to live in. But, it was well-crafted and that made the books that much better.
Divergent
The world of Divergent is relatively small — old Chicago. But the society set up, combined with the new world/old world comparison help construct the world in my mind. And while we have NO idea what is coming in Allegiant, I know the fleshing of the rest of the world building will be JUST as amazing.
Harry Potter (series)
DUH! Harry Potter has some of the best of everything: writing, plot, characters, and of course, world-building. This series is just plain perfection.
These posts are always such fun to read 😀
Agree with all of these (except for sadly, I can’t comment on These Broken Stars since I haven’t read it yet). Fun post!
Love your post!’ And you have some of my favorites in your list too. I mean, Harry Potter is just epic I think we can all agree on that!
I love that you added “these broken stars” as I’m so excited to read it now even more.
And YEAH for TMI – I mean this world is epic. Did you see the movie??? You must ;-))
Yes I went the weekend it is came out! Hubby let me sneak out alone after the kids went to bed. Loved it!
Oh and if you have an ARC of These Broken Stars you MUST read it stat…. I is now one of my favorite books.
I love five, three, two, and one! They’re all such great books.

Great list! Hunger Games, Divergent, and Harry Potter are on my list as well. I keep hearing great things about These Broken Stars
Ohh, it is SO good. I keep raving about it to everyone I can, haha.
I love your picks! I had Harry Potter on my list too. J.K. Rowlings world building is amazing in that! I also am a BIG fan of the Across the Universe trilogy and I love the way Beth Revis kept revealing more and more of the world throughout the series. So good! Great picks. 😀
Guess I should read These Broken Stars and Across the Universe soon. I love great world-building!
I HIGHLY recommend both! Soooo good.
