My Bookish Confessions (3)

My Bookish Confessions is a new feature here at Such A Novel Idea.  I started this weekly feature to reveal some of my secret quirks when it comes to all things books.

My Bookish Confession (3)

I absolutely, undoubtedly cannot stand the smell of old books.

I know, I know.  People who love books want that smell bottled for purchase.  But me, I’ve always hated it.  And to go one further, I’m really picky about the feel of the pages.  I don’t know why, but it was a real hindrance prior to e-books and online storage.

No thanks Rory.

So, what’s YOUR bookish confession?

  1. LOL I’m one of those people that likes the smell of old books. I don’t know why, but it is comforting to me.
My bookish confession: I’m a bit OCD when it comes to organizing my books on my shelves. They have to be separated by genre, then in alphabetical order by author last name. Oh and if it is a series in order by series. It really drives me nuts when my roommate doesn’t place a book back in the right place.

  2. HAHA yeah me neither! I can’t take it when I watch movies or shows where people visit the library and sniff at the musty old books (then seem pleased about it) because REALLY?! Ugh. It just smells like death to me, or something XD I’d much rather the smell of a new one 😉

  3. I tend to smell old/used books before buying them just to make sure they don’t smell gross. I don’t mind the normal smell of old books, but I don’t go out of my way to smell them.

Lovely words from lovely people!
