Waiting on Wednesday (24)

Waiting on Wednesday weekly event that spotlights upcoming-releases that bloggers are most excited about.  This week’s I-can’t-wait book is: Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Page.  Dorothy Must Die will be released on April 1, 2014 by HarperTeen.

About the Book

I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still the yellow brick road, though—but even that’s crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart.
Steal the Scarecrow’s brain.
Take the Lion’s courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die! (From Goodreads.com)

Why I’m Waiting

I’m a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan.  I’ve been one as long as I can remember, and have recently passed the obsession on to my children.  So when I saw Christianna’s WoW post on The White Unicorn, I fangirled a little a lot.  It was a bit embarrassing.  But man, oh man this one looks SO good!

I’ve got it and the prequel novella pre-ordered and waiting to come to my lovely Kindle on release day… In April.

  1. This book sounds seriously amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever read a Wizard of Oz retelling before, and OMG this sounds like such an awesome twist on the original. I hope it lives up to the hype!

    • I know! There have been SO many tv shows/movies/etc, but I’ve never read a book retelling (besides Wicked of course, which Gregory Maguire is the fairy tale retelling king!) so it will be interesting!

  2. Great pick! I featured this one recently as well and I’m so freaking excited for it as well. Such a fun concept. I can’t wait! 🙂

Lovely words from lovely people!
