Hello {december}, Goodbye {november}

hellogoodbye

Hello Goodbye is a monthly feature here at Such A Novel Idea highlighting a few of my favorite things from the past month. Enjoy!

Ahh, November.  It was busy, busy, busy, and I honestly can’t believe it is almost over.  The end of this year has just flown by!  So, here are a few of my favorite things from this month.

Favorite Book

The Curse Keepers by Denise Grover-Swank

CurseKeepers

This was such a great book and a fresh take on the new adult genre.  Throw in some paranormal and some romance and you’ve got a 5 star book!  Find my review here.

Favorite Music

I didn’t add a whole lot to my repertoire, but what I did was really great.

Sharon Van Etten

I found this song at the end of one tumultuous episode of The Walking Dead.  Within a few measures, I was already scrambling for my computer to buy the song.  I’ve been listening to it constantly ever since. It’s hauntingly beautiful.

It was a close call
Sitting in the back of the room
with a bowl you had owned,
But they didn’t know.
Close in on my black eye.
I feel safe at times.
Certain emblems
Tell me it’s time

Serpents in my mind
Looking for your crimes
Everything changes
I don’t want to mine to this time

Favorite Movies

I went to the movies TWICE this month, which is practically unheard of.  But both were topnotch and I’m really glad I went.

Catching Fire

catchingfiremovie

Breathtakingly incredible.  I can’t really find the words to properly express just how much I loved this movie.

Frozen

Frozen_Poster

I’m not sure who was more excited to see this movie: me or my daughter.  I do know we had a LOT of fun quoting from the trailers.  Quoting movies with five year olds are fun by the way.  So the kids and I went Friday and LOVED it.  It is definitely a movie I recommend, even if you don’t have kids!

Favorite TV Shows

Buffy

Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-TV-Series

I FINALLY got on the bandwagon (I know, I’m a couple of decades behind!) and have become obsessed with the show.  Just in case you want to see my reactions, follow me on Twitter (@heartjess), because I tend to livetweet when I’m watching.

  1. Frozen was SO GOOD. I loved it. The first five minutes kind of jabbed me in the feeler and the rest was just so… ugh, I want to see it again. It’s kind of great for all ages. I went with five other people and we were all 15 and older. It was great. I need to see Catching Fire too. Oh man.

I hope you have a great December!

    • I KNOW! I was almost in tears, AGAIN. Disney never fails to rip up my heart. My son has autism and ADHD and never sits still, but he didn’t move the whole movie. And my daughter usually has to pee three times, but she never even asked to go. Afterwards she said, “Mommy, I didn’t want to miss anything.” That tells me how great it was.

And Catching Fire — oh man, I just… ahh. My husband loved it, which again, was a tell of how great it was.

I hope you have a great Dec too!

  2. Yay for Buffy!! I’ve been a Buffy fan since forever and I love finding new fans. I must start following you on Twitter!

I loved Catching Fire, too. Although I’ve never seen that poster before. I’m glad you loved The Curse Keepers. I didn’t, but it’s nice to see someone else’s perspective.

Have fun with your family this month!

    • 🙂 I can’t believe I waited so long to start it! I’m currently on season 4, and I’m having so much fun.

Aww, bummer you didn’t like it, but I agree it is good to see some different views. I just loved the fresh take on NA – it wasn’t the same ol’ same ol’ that I normally read.

Thanks for stopping by Tammy 🙂

  3. Love love love Buffy…such an awesome show. And can’t wait for These Broken Stars, I feel like everyone has read it but me. Catching Fire was a great movie, really enjoyed it. And The Curse Keepers sounds really good, I think I’ll read that one soon.

Lovely words from lovely people!
