Waiting on Wednesday weekly event that spotlights upcoming-releases that bloggers are most excited about.  This week’s I-can’t-wait book is: (Don’t You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn.  (Don’t You) Forget About Me will be released on June 10, 2014 by HarperCollins.

About the Book

ForgetAboutMe_EpicReads

Welcome to Gardnerville.

A place where no one gets sick. And no one ever dies.

Except…
There’s a price to pay for paradise. Every fourth year, the strange power that fuels the town exacts its payment by infecting teens with deadly urges. In a normal year in Gardnerville, teens might stop talking to their best friends. In a fourth year, they’d kill them.

Four years ago, Skylar’s sister, Piper, was locked away after leading sixteen of her classmates to a watery grave. Since then, Skylar has lived in a numb haze, struggling to forget her past and dull the pain of losing her sister. But the secrets and memories Piper left behind keep taunting Skylar—whispering that the only way to get her sister back is to stop Gardnerville’s murderous cycle once and for all. (From Goodreads.com)

Why I’m Waiting

First of all, the title makes me sing Don’t You, dun dun, Forget about me, bam, Don’t Don’t Don’t Don’t… (Thank you Simple Minds for that amazing song, btw!)  Then it makes me think of John Hughes and the great 80’s movie The Breakfast Club.  So that makes me pretty happy.

And then, I read the premise.  And I started maniacally laughing, because OF COURSE it is about an evil town. OF COURSE it is.

I’d read it just based on the premise, but the conflicting feelings of euphoria and creepiness combine to create a powerful urge to want this book in my hands now.

*Edit* I scheduled this post on Sunday, Dec. 1st.  Today, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of the ARC.  Umm, that’s the shortest ‘wait’ I’ve had thus far.  Thanks Harper!!!

  1. HAH! I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets the song stuck in their heads whenever they look at the title for that book!!

Also, I ALSO laughed manically when I read the synopsis, because… well… that’s just how it goes in fiction, doesn’t it? 😉

    Great pick, as always. :]

  2. The song was the first thing I thought of.

Then I thought of that creepy Supernatural episode where the town sacrificed tourists to that creepy god thing to stay fruitful.

Both make me want to read it!

  3. I want to read that one, too! I read her previous novel, Another Little Piece, and it was so strange and unique and wonderful that I know I’ll have to read this one, too. I think her previous book title came from the lyrics of a song, too (Piece of My Heart, which was sung by Janis Joplin). My WoW

    • YES! I didn’t realize it till I was researching this book that she wrote that one.

I actually just finished another book titled after that Janis Joplin song, Another Little Piece of My Heart. I gotta say, it is a great song to title a book after 🙂

Lovely words from lovely people!
