My Thoughts

There are two reason I chose to be a part of this tour. 1. The fact that this was a prequel and could be read even if you hadn’t read the rest of the series. 2. THAT GORGEOUS COVER! Seriously, it is so beautiful and mystifying, it just drew me in. And I have to say, I’m glad I went with my gut on this one, because I was in for a treat.

Even though I had no idea what was going on, I picked up on things pretty fast. We have a girl named Lilette who is living with people that are not her own. Her parents were murdered and she has been seperated from not only her own kind, but her sisters. She is a witch (obviously) and the women in her line hold a power. Of course, everyone seems to want that power.

When the story begins, Lilette is at the cusp of marriage to a man who already has many wives and children. She is preparing to run away to find her sister when people from her past appear. They want to breed with her for her powers. They end up killing the entire village and kidnapping Lilette. Oh and of course, the kidnappers are the Prince and his royal men.

This begins a wild tale that weaves in and out of the plot that sets up the world we will see in Witch Song. There are no lags in this book, it is compelling from beginning to end.

At the beginning of each chapter, we see a message from the protagonist in the first book. She is making comments about Lilette as she is in the future, and they tie in fabulously with what we see on the pages.

There is romance, but it doesn’t overtake the REALLY interesting lore about the witches (who gain their power from singing! how cool is that!?) and the world that they live in.  Lilette is an amazing character – dynamic and full of life. I loved getting to know her and it will be interesting to see how this book is woven into the series.  Had I read the series, I would have known what to expect in the end – that’s all I will say, because spoilers.

Overall, I was really intrigued by this book to begin with, but by the end, I was wanting more. On one hand, I wish I had already read the series, but on the other, I am so happy I have that to look forward to. I’m so excited I was able to pick up the first book for free, and can’t wait to dive in.

  1. Great review! I love how at the start of each chapter we get messages from the MC of book 1. I love different tricks like these that help tie in other books or more of the world building etc. I think I’d really like this one too! 🙂

  2. “There is romance, but it doesn’t overtake the REALLY interesting lore about the witches (who gain their power from singing! how cool is that!?)”
~Right?!? The author had a really cool idea with that one. *wink wink*

Lovely words from lovely people!
