As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married.
But Kestrel has other intentions. One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin. But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.
Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart. (From Goodreads.com)
Why I’m Waiting
I’ve been waiting on this book for quite some time. First of all, there is that lovely cover. I kind of want that dress, just so I can twirl around the house in it. I’d probably end up wearing it out in public too, because when you have something that gorgeous, you don’t take it off.
And then the phenom that is Ann Aguirre started tweeting about how amazing it was. I was immediately like “That’s it, it’s pre-order time.” There is something you need to know about me. I love books, I really do. However, that love of books is does not equate to me pre-ordering something until I really know I want it. Usually that means a book by an author I love and has never disappointed me (*coughcolleenhoovercough*) or is a series I’m already invested in. In fact, I can only think of two pre-orders that don’t fit in these categories (Ransom Rigg’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children & Danielle Paige’s Dorothy Must Die).
So, I think the whole pre-order thing shows my level of commitment and wantingness. I just can’t wait. I just CAN’T WAIT!
