Lailah
The Styclar Saga #1
by Nikki Kelly
Release Date: October 7, 2014
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Genre: YA, Paranormal

Synopsis:

The girl knows she’s different. She doesn’t age. She has no family. She has visions of a past life, but no clear clues as to what she is, or where she comes from. But there is a face in her dreams – a light that breaks through the darkness. She knows his name is Gabriel.

On her way home from work, the girl encounters an injured stranger whose name is Jonah. Soon, she will understand that Jonah belongs to a generation of Vampires that serve even darker forces. Jonah and the few like him, are fighting with help from an unlikely ally – a rogue Angel, named Gabriel.

In the crossfire between good and evil, love and hate, and life and death, the girl learns her name: Lailah. But when the lines between black and white begin to blur, where in the spectrum will she find her place? And with whom?

Gabriel and Jonah both want to protect her. But Lailah will have to fight her own battle to find out who she truly is.  (From Goodreads.com)

Why I’m Waiting

When I saw the cover reveal for this book, my jaw dropped. It actually physically dropped.  It was so intriguing I was putting it on my Goodreads list before I even read the synopsis.  And then I read it — yes please!  I also noticed there were several 5 star reviews already, so I did a little research.  Turns out, Nikki Kelly is a Wattpad user who first posted Lailah there.  The twenty-something author’s popularity on the site (and hard work and gumption) led to a book deal, and the rest they say, is history.  I love hearing about 1.) young authors and 2.) Cinderella stories.  I think it also speaks volume that it was picked up after readers had it in their hands.  Wanna hear the whole story? Click here! Meanwhile, I’ll be waiting, waiting, waiting to get into this book series.

  1. My eyes were like O_O when I looked at the cover closely. Those hands are super creepy! But I like the summary, and I’ve never even heard of this book before until I saw your post! Vampires and angels? I wonder how that’ll work… thanks for bringing this up my radar though. Adding the book to my GR list! Great pick. 🙂

    Check out my WoW picks!

  2. Whoa. What a cover. I had to go back and look at it more closely because I didn’t see hands at first either. It sounds fantastic and I love the story behind how it was picked up.

… it’s now on my TBR.

    Check out my WoW!

  3. Wow, creepy, crazy cover – my jaw didn’t drop but my eyes got big! It does sound really interesting. I’m intrigued. I’ll be interested to see what you think of it. If you like it I’m going to have to check it out too.

    Check out my WOW

  4. This cover is freaking me out!! It looks like a zombie story, kind of. But it does sound good, thanks for bringing it to my attention! Here’s my WOW.

  5. I hadn’t heard of this, but I thought the cover looked nice when I first got to your page. Then I looked at it again and realized those were all hands! Sounds like a good one! I’ll be adding it to my TBR as well! Thanks for sharing, and if you have time, come check out my WOW

  6. Is it wrong of me to post? Just wanted to say thank you for putting LAILAH in your Waiting on Wednesday, this is the very first time I have seen the cover reveal/ blurb discussed amongst bloggers, and *phew wipes sweat from brow – it made me smile!! I also love the fact that you got the word gumption, in there… I love that word, it’s really not used enough!! Also now considering changing to a pen name… perhaps Cinder?! 😉 x

    • Wrong? NO! It’s actually really flattering 🙂

I’m honored (and excited!) to be the first of what I’m sure will be MANY blog posts about the book!

I love using underrated words like gumption and technicolor. Juxtaposition used to be in that category, but has since gained some popularity. Hah, I’m such a nerd!

Thanks for stopping by. And I fully support the pen name!

      • I’m in new territory here…!! Well, if the rest are anything like yours I need not fear the bloggers!! Feeling lots of love for you guys!!

Right, I admit, I had to look up Juxtaposition — *shame on me!
What a great word. My challenge for tomorrow – when walking the pug, and inevitably bump into other dog walkers, to use Juxtaposition in conversation!

Also I think, all of us, Whovians are technically nerds, but I prefer to think of us as cool nerds — bow ties are cool, afterall – so shall we be! 😉

Lovely words from lovely people!
