About Us

suchanovelideabutton2

Such A Novel Idea started over on Tumblr in early 2011.  I wanted a place where I could jot down thoughts when I started seriously writing.  However, as Tumblr is a fangirl’s Bermuda Triangle, I got sucked in on the fun and needed a place to distinguish my book obsession.  In 2013, Such A Novel Idea – Book Reviews & More was formed.  Now I’m not only obsessed with books, I’m obsessed with promoting books and making other people obsessed with them.  It really is the perfect job for me. Want me to read your book?  Find out how here!

In 2014, Loren joined the team.  Loren and I met in Creative Writing and Shakespeare and quickly became friends.  We are currently working on a book series together titled Haze and have a LOT of fun being book soul mates.  I’m REALLY excited to have her on board!

A Little Note from Me to You

Maybe it’s because I was a Journalism major in undergrad (don’t hate – I’m not a part of the crazy mainstream media), but I have always valued the importance of honesty in any writing.  Of course, as I went on to the field of Public Relations, I figured out that there are ways to ‘spin’ the truth.  And in my job, I was able to balance the two – make the company look good while still keeping my integrity.

And so this ethic comes into my job as a reviewer.  I know that I rarely buy a book without doing some major recon on it (well, with most products I buy really).  I read reviews, and really they will sway me a lot of times to click the purchase button or not. I also know I absolutely LOVE a good, simple review.  It doesn’t have to be a wordy play-by-play – it just has to tell me what I need to know.  I really enjoy reading low reviews too, because if they are done right they can sometimes efficiently tell me that while THEY didn’t like the book, I probably will.

And I absolutely hate when I read reviews, feel like it is a great book, and in the end feel duped.  Sugar-coating and hype just aren’t necessary.  With that in mind, I went into this journey as a blogger with the same mindset.

I LOVE books.  There is nothing better in this world than a good book. Nothing makes me feel the way a good book can – it changes me wholly as a person.  I also love reading a book no one has heard about.  I feel like the angel bringing tidings of great joy when I tell people about an amazing book they have yet to discover.  So, while I am no professional, I take my job as a book reviewer/blogger seriously.

My promise to the authors I review is this: I will give you a fair shot – I will not base my decisions on who you are as an author.  And I will tell you the truth without attacking or being nasty.  Honesty and my opinion are two things you will get from me.

And my promise to the readers is this: I will not dupe you – to the best of my ability I will give you my honest opinions of a book – what I liked, what I didn’t.  And hopefully my reviews will help you decide if the book is right for you. Thank you for stopping by.

    • I know the temptation to be nice to save face, but in the end it just isn’t doing any favors. Glad to have you on board!

Oh and yes I did — thanks btw 🙂

  3. Hi Jess. Thanks for visiting and following my blog. Great looking site you’re got here. I enjoyed reading about your take on book reviews. Like you, I do a lot of pre-investigating into any book I’m considering reading, and dislike both reviews that are overly glowing and those that seem like the reviewer has an axe to grind. I also agree with you about low reviews as well: I actually find 3-star reviews to be the most helpful, as they’re usually the most balanced.

I just signed up for Goodreads yesterday in order to start writing reviews of my own or the sort that I most like to read.

    Cheers. 🙂

  4. Hi Jess, I absolutely love your blog header and the way you’ve customized your theme, it looks awesome! I too feel that honest reviews are very important and I think it’s great that you feel the same!

    Happy blogging. 🙂

Lovely words from lovely people!
